New IDR150,000 Bali tourist levy – what you need to know!

Since 14 February 2024, Bali has required international tourists to pay a IDR150,000 (Approximately $10USD / $15AUD) levy when entering the island.  Funds are used to protect the customs, traditions, arts and culture of the Balinese people along with tackling the traffic and rubbish issues caused by tourism.

Many of the the long term Bali visitors see the initiative as a positive step to help preserve Bali, it’s heritage and help deal with the increasing traffic and waste problems the island faces due to the increase in tourism over the years.

How to pay the Bali tourist levy?

Tourists can pay the levy at the airport upon arrival, however the Government recommends paying online through the Love Bali website prior to arrival.  Simply enter your travel details and complete payment.  You will then receive your levy voucher by email.  Save this or screenshot the QR code and show it at the airport scanning checkpoints.

Who is exempt from the levy?

Certain visa categories are exempt from this fee, including:

• Diplomatic and official visa holders
• Conveyance crew
• KITAS and KITAP holders
• Family unification visas
• Golden and student visa holders
• Specific non-tourist visa holders.

To qualify for an exemption, applications must be submitted one month prior to the planned arrival in Bali,.

Bali has seen a massive increase in tourists post COVID.  Regular Bali visitors can attest to the increase in traffic and waste and hopefully the new Love Bali initiative can help conserve Bali in all its glory for future generations.
